Ambiguity is one of the
most vital criteria that I use in determining
the success of a
photograph—opening a door and leaving
it intentionally ajar. If I have created
the space necessary for you to appreciate
my work through your experience, then I
have unlocked a window to your soul. I have
offered you endless ways of perceiving and
interpreting my work. Forcing a work of
art, on the other hand, demands that a viewer
sees things only one way. The artist’s
way! Their viewer’s experience is
anxiously manipulated and their possibilities,
therefore, harshly limited. As a result,
you, the viewer, will receive little from
the experience and will most likely feel
put off. Cheated.
