“Sell your cleverness
and buy enchantment,” offered Rumi.
It must certainly be said that
technical excellence is a relevant and necessary
facet of mastery as a whole. It is after all,
masterful technique that forms the basis of
your practice. But refined technique alone
is not enough. It is missing an essential
ingredient in the recipe for mastery—and
that is spirit. The
life of the master. Brilliant technique
alone can yield nothing more than finely crafted
work. That is not art. And if the old adage
is true, that art is life and life art, then
it must be said that a masterful life be laden
with deep truth. With depths of passion. With
unabashed, courageous, intense, passionate
expression.
